Why we grow hydroponically with Coconut Fibers
At Gideons Hydro Farm, we are dedicated to being a sustainable company & reuse what Nature has given us.
About 50 Billion Coconuts fall from trees annually. The husks & shells are typically discarded. It can take several decades for that coconut to break down in a landfill. That creates more Methane Gas & is hazardous to our Planet. We use recycled coconut fibers instead of soil. These coconut fibers are held together by natural tree gum. Once the micros are grown & cut we can discard the fibers in compost to provide food for our big garden.
These coconut fibers are held together by natural tree gum. By using minimal tree gum, it allows the coconut fibers to be flexible yet firm while the plants are growing.
Using Coconut Fibers allows Chefs at restaurants to have these microgreens sitting right on the counter without contaminating the food. How amazing is that?
Our Grow Trays
After watching The Human Experiment on Netflix, we kept searching for the right material to grow our Microgreens in. The easily accessible grow trays at the store were not an option for us considering how many contaminants, toxic chemicals & carcinogens are in them. After months of searching, we finally found the perfect grow trays!
These grow trays are Certified Food Safe, FDA compliant Copolymer Polypropylene material that is BPA Free!
The material the trays are made from doesn’t allow bacterial to grow & it doesn’t absorb odors or contaminants!
